Saint Dwynwen

Saint Dwynwen, 460 A.D is one of the most celebrated female saints of Wales, and will be celebrated all across the nation on January 25. Dwynwen is the patron saint of lovers for the Welsh. She was born on the island of Angelsey the daughter of King Brychan. After a failed love affair she chose to live as an anchoress in full seclusion till the end of her life.

Her church and well at Llanddwyn became an important shrine during the middle ages attracting pilgrims and poets form afar. Queen Victoria erected a cross at the spot in 1879.The land now is a nature reserve and the remains of her church sit alongside the Welsh Coastal Path. During our “King Arthurs Walkabout” this May we will visit this revered site. Looking to the northward across Caernarfon Bay towards the Snowdonia mountains and the stomping grounds of King Arthur!
