Welsh Highland Railway.

On our bus trips in May and October 2017 after we visit Caernarfon Castle we will board the Welsh Highland Narrow Gauge Railway. The trip will take us through the center of the Snowdonia National Park to the 19th century seaport town of Porthmadog. During our two day stay in Porthmadog we will stay at the Royal Sportsman Hotel and explore the National Park!

A stay at Tenby by the Sea

During our stay in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, on our Wild Wales Tour in May & October, 2017, we will be staying at the Atlantic Hotel on the Esplanade overlooking the Atlantic. The beach is directly across from our hotel. Tenby, an 11th century walled city, was much fought over during the 12th & 13th centuries. A short walk along the cobblestone streets takes us down to the harbor and the 15th century Tudor Merchant House. There are many cozy pubs down by the quayside where we can eat our supper.

Long Eared Owl

The sounds and calls of the bird world can be very therapeutical! Crossing over a small stone bridge on a walkabout in the mountains of North Wales last October I heard the call of a Long Eared Owl! Other than the sound of the creek below it was the only interjection of sound into the darkness that surrounded me. I shall never forget that moment. Strangely enough one tuned up in our backyard here in Minnesota two weeks ago! The picture was taken by Sue Flether from the Owl Center in Houston MN. There is pleasure in the pathless woods, There is rapture on the lonely shore, There is society where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but nature more.

Wild Wales Tours and Walkabouts, our story!

Wild Wales Tours and Walkabouts L.L.C. was established to introduce North Americans and others to the people, culture and physical landscapes of the nation of Wales. The Lonely Planet Guide for 2017 chose North Wales as the fourth most desirable region to visit on the planet in 2017! Growing up in Snowdonia, North Wales in the ‘50s and ‘60s, I had no idea how lucky I was to be raised in such a rich culture, surrounded by magnificent landscape. After leaving Ysgol y Gader High School in Dolgellau in 1967, with no prospects of finding work in the area, I joined the Royal Air Force. Six years later I sailed across the Atlantic on a small sailboat to the Welsh settlement in Patagonia, but ended

Bodnant Gardens!

World famous Bodnant Gardens are situated on terraces above the River Conway facing Snowdonia in North Wales. We will visit these exquisite gardens famous for their collection of azaleas, rhododendrons, Laburnum and a vast collection of plants. In the month of May these gardens are a kaleidoscope of vivid colors. After our lunch at Ty Hwnt in the nearby hamlet of Llanrwst we will visit these lovely gardens.
