Welsh Male Voice Choir

During the early 1840’s when Joseph Smith and his followers were traveling across the great expanse of America seeking a home for their new church, the Later Day Saints, a spark crossed over the Atlantic to Wales. With great passion for singing the Welsh incorporated their strong voices to the new church. During that decade many hundreds of converts moved from Wales to establish the headquarters of the new church in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah. Brigham Young realizing the great energy and zest of his new converts made John Parry from Trelawnyd, Flintshire, North Wales the first conductor of the Tabernacle Choir. Today fifty percent of the 360 choir members have Welsh ancestry.

The choirs of Wales are still singing, the glue that holds together the cultural identity of its passionate people. The singing continues at the rugby games, church, chapel, schools, pubs and the many Eisteddfods that happen around Wales during the summer months each year.

On our Wild Wales Tours this May and October we will be listening to the top rated male Voice Choir in Wales today, Cor Y Brythoniaid from Blaenau Ffestiniog, North Wales.
